Towson University is accepting applications for an Athletic Academic Advisor/Learning Specialist to provide academic guidance to prospective and enrolled student-athletes in order to insure that they receive the academic advising and support needed to succeed academically and meet University and NCAA academic eligibility requirements.


The Athletic Academic Advisor/Learning Specialist provides effective academic advising and up-to-date campus information to selected sports; conducts individual advising appointments with student-athletes who have concerns about their major choices, progress toward degree, grades or any other aspects that may impede their success toward graduation and NCAA eligibility and APR requirements. Provides effective academic support as a learning specialist for those selected "at-risk" student-athletes as assigned. Maintains appropriate documentation and academic records to verify compliance with NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations. Has knowledge of NCAA rules, graduation requirements and general academic regulations. Works with the other Learning Specialists in the unit to maintain, and improve where needed, the FFLIP Program and the Learning Specialist manual. Serves as liaison with Career Center and assists the Senior Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Achievement with Career Readiness Programming. Assists Assistant Director of Academic Achievement with Guest Coach Program and the undergraduate internship program.


Bachelor's Degree and two years Academic Advising experience, working with at-risk student-athletes. Knowledge of academic and graduation requirements, NCAA progress towards degree requirements as well as other NCAA rules and regulations. Skills include organization, maintaining confidential information, degree planning, assessing and creating study skill development for at-risk student-athletes, ability to collaborate across campus. Master's Degree and experience working as a learning specialist preferred.

A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
