St. Margaret’s School seeks candidates for a year-long fellowship in boarding school life. This fellowship is an opportunity to explore the advantages of a career in a boarding school community specifically in the Athletic Department. 


The school’s Athletic Fellow will work closely with the Athletic Director and other Deans. Preference will be given to applicants with ability to coach at least 3 of the following: field hockey, soccer, rowing, and lacrosse. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and enjoy working with young adults. Our faculty and girls live by the “Gospel of Doing” and these words from our school prayer: As we grow in age, may we grow in Grace.

The St. Margaret’s Athletic Fellow will:

  • Serve as a member of the residential on-campus staff
  • Act as an athletic coach and/or assistant coach for 2-3 seasons
  • Embrace and participate in River Program outdoor activities;
  • Engage in faculty efforts to enrich and expand the curriculum and development of St. Margaret’s students;
  • Receive weekly mentorship coaching and support from various members of the SMS Administrative Team.

The SMS Fellow will receive an hourly wage, housing (including basic utilities), meals (when school is in session), medical and dental benefits.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Interested applicants must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. A degree in education is not required.
  • A desire to experience and contribute to a boarding school community.
  • A demonstrated desire for continual growth.
  • A curiosity about best practices for athletics, and co-curricular programming in an all-girls setting.
  • An ability to learn effective communication techniques to best build relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and various community members. 
  • A willingness to uphold the mission of the school.
