The Position

The Coordinator of Athletics Marketing and Promotions works closely with students to increase the visibility of athletic contests and the Department of Athletics on campus. This includes creating previews, recaps, profiles, feature stories, and videos about student athletes. The Coordinator of Athletics Marketing and Promotions is one of the two primary departmental liaisons for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In supporting SAAC, this position provides significant contributions to the development of student athletes through mentorship, guidance, leadership opportunities, community building, and a commitment to social justice. The Coordinator assists in organizing all aspects of game management for home athletic events, including all football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, and post-season contests.  Additional duties in the Sports Information office will be assigned as needed. This is a full-time, academic year position.

This position is funded through NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant and is available for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years. This position is expected to begin on August 1, 2019 and end on May 31, 2021. Salary is $23,660 and includes benefits. This grant also provides the successful candidate $3,000 for each year of funding for professional development in accordance with College policies.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working within a successful communications team for 1+ years, in intercollegiate athletic communications preferred.
  • Fundamental understanding of basic communications strategy principles.
  • Commitment to supporting students from underrepresented groups, including students from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, first-generation-to-college students, and low-income students.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (by car, air, train or bus) domestically and internationally as needed for covering athletic competition.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships with clientele such as students, staff, faculty and co-workers.
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal & listening) skills.
  • Athletics communications experience, stat keeping
  • Experience with statistical software and back end operation of athletics website
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; ability to synthesize complex or diverse information.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills for successful documentation, planning and execution.
  • Proficiency in data management systems and computer software (e.g., statistic tracking programs, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, social media, webcasting, WordPress, website development and maintenance, photography and video editing)
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, and other non-traditional schedules.
