Position Purpose:

The Assistant Track & Field Coach (Pole Vault) position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of affiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the NESCAC Conference, and the College. The Assistant Coach will have significant night and weekend commitments. This position reports to the Head Coach. Bates College Athletics proudly represents the NCAA DIII, NESCAC, and DIII New England Region.

Job Duties:

-This position will be responsible for specific practice plans for men’s and women’s Pole vault events.
-Plan and lead practice for pole vault event.
-Develop specific strength & technical conditioning for pole vaulters.
-Assist in equipment ordering as it pertains to pole vault events.
-Assist in the recruitment process for qualified student-athletes in pole vault events: including meeting prospective students, discussing pole vault program.
-Assist in transportation duties to and from competitions as needed.
-Complete all required departmental and institutional training and certification programs and participate actively in available professional development opportunities.
-Comply with NCAA DIII, NESCAC, and institutional rules.
-Performs all other duties as assigned by the head coaches, Director of Athletics, or any other senior-level administrator.

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree and a strong background in intercollegiate track & field with a skill analysis and technique emphasis in the pole vault.

Experience:

Experience coaching or competing competitively in the pole vault.
At least 3 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level in pole vault and/or evidence of high success at the NCAA level as a pole vaulter preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills.
Basic proficiency in microsoft/google software (i.e word, excel, docs, sheets, forms etc).
Interpersonal communication; ability to demonstrate as needed for beginner and experienced student-athletes.
Ability to recruit and motivate qualified and talented student-athletes, a demonstrated commitment to students’ athletic and academic success.
Demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and retain a diverse and inclusive, successful team with individuals of all cultural backgrounds, and the capacity to be a visible and respectful member of the coaching staff.
Demonstrated commitment to practices in equity, inclusion, access, and antiracism, and to serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse and inclusive community.
