Part II: Invisible Playbook: How To Create a Culture of Inclusive Excellence
Featuring: Jen Fry, Owner/CEO JenFryTalks
Diversity and Inclusion are words that are consistently used, but many times lack the action that is truly needed to help start transforming individuals, teams, and departments. Within this session we will critically discuss personal identities and how those identities affect interactions with co-workers, staff members, coaches, athletes, hiring, firing, recruiting, handbooks, and policies. Identity must be critically considered in order to not only start, but maintain a diverse and inclusive environment.
JenFryTalks is a social justice education firm who uses conversation to educate and empower those within athletics through an anti-racist lens on issues of race, inclusion, intersectionality, diversity, and equity. Social justice education assists everyone in their process of critically thinking of how to become culturally competent, how to self reflect on one’s position, power and privilege, and lastly, how to create an inclusive culture that allows diversity to be a part of the culture not BE the culture.
Jen is a veteran coach with over 15 years of experience at the collegiate level with coaching stints at Elon University, University of Illinois – 2011 National Runner-up, Washington State University, and Norfolk State University. She has spoken, consulted, or facilitated sessions/workshops with the NCAA, NCAA Inclusion Forum, American Volleyball Coaches Association, Gilman School, Grinnell College, Texas A&M University- Kingsville, Boston College, Notre Dame of Maryland, Old Dominion Athletic Conference, Hood College, University of Arkansas- Fort Smith, Lonestar Conference, Black Student-Athlete Summit, Women Leaders in College Sports, Western Michigan University, East Carolina University, and more. Jen recently completed her first TedxDuke talk titled “Radical Social Justice Education Through High Fives.” Lastly, she is working on her PhD in Geography at the Michigan State University and studying the racial experiences of professional Black volleyball players overseas.
