Prior to Title IX in 1972, over 90% of women’s collegiate sports teams were coached by women.

Over 50 years later, for all three NCAA divisions, that number has decreased to 41% women head coaches of women’s teams. This means only 4 out of 10 NCAA women’s teams are coached by women. And women head coaches lead only 24% of the 20,255 total NCAA men’s & women’s teams.

Only 6% women head coaches lead NCAA men’s teams. Out of 9,291 total NCAA men’s teams head coaching opportunities, only 574 are led by women.

Women of Color head coaches lead 7% of NCAA women’s teams and only 1% of NCAA men’s teams. Out of 20,255 total head coaching opportunities for NCAA men’s & women’s teams, only 890 are led by Women of Color.

At the youth level, only 26% of youth sports head coaches were women in 2022, up slightly from 24% in 2019.
How to Help MOVE the NUMBERS:
Secure 50 Women Coaches Academy Scholarships (for collegiate coaches) = $1972/year to cover tuition, hotel, travel, meals, & annual WeCOACH membership dues. Fund an Academy Scholarship to send a current woman coach to our Academy cost-free. Donors may name the scholarship in honor or memory of a woman coach or male ally coach who has impacted your life (e.g., Muffet McGraw Academy Scholarship). If desired, the scholarship may be earmarked for a woman coach in a specific sport to attend the Academy (e.g., Muffet McGraw Academy Scholarship for Women’s Basketball Coaches). Tribute scholarships will be posted on the WeCOACH WCA website. The goal is to fund these Academy Scholarship opportunities in perpetuity. Monthly payment plans are available. After payment is submitted, complete this form.
Secure 50 High School Academy Scholarships (virtual) = $180/year to cover tuition & annual WeCOACH membership dues. Fund an Academy Scholarship for a current high school or club woman coach to participate in our virtual Academy cost-free. Donors may name the scholarship in honor or memory of a woman coach or male ally coach who has impacted your life. If desired, the scholarship may be earmarked for a woman coach in a specific sport. Tribute scholarships will be posted on the WeCOACH HS Academy website. The goal is to fund these scholarship opportunities in perpetuity. Monthly payment plans are available. After payment is submitted, complete this form.
Women Coaches Academy Scholarships (for collegiate coaches) = $1972/year to cover tuition, hotel, travel, meals, & annual WeCOACH membership dues. Tribute scholarships will be posted on the WeCOACH WCA Scholarship webpage. The goal is to fund these Academy Scholarship opportunities in perpetuity. Monthly payment plans are available. Youth & High School Academy Scholarships (virtual) = $134/year to cover tuition & annual WeCOACH membership dues. Fund an Academy Scholarship for a current youth, club, middle or high school woman coach to participate in our virtual Academy cost-free. Donors may name the scholarship in honor or memory of a woman coach or male ally coach who has impacted your life. If desired, the scholarship may be earmarked for a woman coach in a specific sport. Tribute scholarships will be posted on the WeCOACH Youth & HS Academy website. The goal is to fund these scholarship opportunities in perpetuity. Monthly payment plans are available. After payment is submitted, complete this form.
Secure 50 men and 50 women to donate $500+ each. This tax-deductible critical funding will be applied toward securing national speakers and covering operational costs associated with WeCOACH’s year-round growth and development programs.
Youth/club/high school memberships start at only $59/year and college/professional memberships are $99/year. Discounts available for group memberships.
- Schools & school districts, collegiate institutions & conferences are encouraged to invest in annual WeCOACH memberships for your women coaches as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX.
- Donors are encouraged to gift WeCOACH memberships to individuals or groups of women coaches within your network.
