Debbie Corum

Director of Athletics
Southern Utah University

After serving as the Interim Athletic Director for five months following the departure of Jason Butikofer in June of 2017, President Scott L Wyatt named Debbie Corum the Athletic Director in November of 2017.

Corum is the first female Division I Athletic Director in the state of Utah.

At Southern Utah University, Corum is the overseer of 17 athletic programs, coaches, staff and more than 350 student-athletes. She is also a member of President Scott Wyatt’s Cabinet.

Corum’s responsibilities include recruiting, managing and motivating a team of highly qualified coaches, administrators and staff under full compliance with SUU, the Big Sky Conference, the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference and NCAA regulations.

Prior to Corum’s elevation, Corum served as the Senior Associate Athletic Director – Senior Woman Administrator from May of 2016 to June of 2017.

Corum will provide leadership and direction for all programs and functions of the Athletics Department with respect to academic services, Title IX liaison, student-athlete welfare, community relations, sport supervision, and as a member of the executive leadership team.

Prior to Southern Utah, Corum was the Senior Associate Athletic Director – Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Connecticut. Her responsibilities at UConn included monitoring institutional commitment to Title IX compliance in athletics, serving as a member of the senior management team and representing the University at all governing organizations including the NCAA, American Athletics Conference and other regional events.

Corum was the Chair of the American Athletic Conference SWA Committee, and was a member of several other high profile boards including the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee, the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) Board of Directors, the AAC Strategic Planning Task Force and the AAC Athletics Director’s Executive Committee. She also assisted with the design of a $38 million men’s and women’s basketball facility, as well as the design and implementation of a new logo for the University.

Before taking a position at UConn, Corum spent time at the Southeastern Conference (2000-2012) as the Associate Commissioner of Sports Administration. Corum was familiar with the Southeastern Conference, after spending time there from 1989-1994 as a Director of Championships, as well as an Assistant Director of Championships. She also spent four years at Louisiana State University (1996-2000) as an Associate/Assistant Athletic Director for their Olympic Sports after spending two years at Stanford University (1994-1996) as an Assistant Athletic Director of Intercollegiate Sports.

Corum has spoken at several high profile events including a Boston College Law Symposium, an NCAA Gender Equity and Issues Forum was a panelist at the 2014 US Coast Guard LeadHERship Symposium.

She graduated from Vanderbilt with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Education and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut.
