ABOUT POMONA COLLEGE AND PITZER COLLEGE: Pomona College, established in 1887, is the founding college of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate institutions and two graduate institutions in Claremont, CA, on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County. Pomona College has a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum spanning the arts, humanities, social sciences, math and sciences, emphasizing critical thinking and high impact practices. Pitzer College, established in 1963, was founded as an innovative liberal arts institution, initially specializing in social and behavioral sciences, but has since expanded to other fields. Pitzer’s academic programs emphasize social justice, intercultural understanding and environmental sensitivity. The 21 varsity Pomona-Pitzer Athletic teams comprise of students from both colleges, and compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the NCAA Division III. The Colleges have a combined enrollment of 2,600 students.
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsibilities include aassisting the head coach with on-court instruction, Organization of practice and competition, recruiting potential student-athletes, assisting with social media posts and other program promotion, helping with video and film breakdown. Assistant should be familiar and work to remain compliant with college, SCIAC, and NCAA rules and regulations. Must have the ability to travel and work extended hours and most weekends during the season. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree; previous playing or equivalent sport education experience is required. Previous NCAA coaching or competitive experience. Capacity to positively interact with and support a culturally, ethnically, economically, and socially diverse population of students, faculty and staff
REQUIRED HOURS: Weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the Colleges or division. Must be willing to work extensive weekend and evening hours.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt position. Starting pay rate: $14.00 per hour. Wages will be hourly, and the position will be capped at approximately $14,700/year. The position will begin on July 1, 2021; however, there may be an opportunity for an earlier start date and, if so, pay will be pro-rated accordingly. There is also potential for additional part-time work in the department and at the tennis facility to supplement income.
