Job Summary - The Assistant Coach of Women’s Field Hockey assists in all aspects of the intercollegiate Women’s Field Hockey team including coaching, recruiting, scheduling, program administration and budgeting. Additional responsibilities may include administrative duties as assigned at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.

Hiring Range - $49,000 - $54,000

Employment Category – Full Time Year Round

Education/Skills Requirements - A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required; Bachelor’s degree (Physical Education or related field) preferred OR a minimum of 5 years of coaching experience at the post-secondary level. Required skills include: Knowledge of Field hockey skills and strategy and the ability to effectively teach them; ability to motivate and effectively communicate with student-athletes; willingness and ability to actively recruit qualified candidates to Bowdoin; commitment to being a positive member of the Athletics Department and the College community and the ability to influence his/her athletes to do the same; and a working knowledge of NCAA and NESCAC rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them: and a demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse student body in culturally competent ways combined with a demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and inclusion. Administrative skills such as prioritization, organization, and budgeting are also required. The coach must be self-directed and motivated and be able to work independently and work in a stressful environment. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification must be maintained. A valid driver’s license and ability to meet the standards of the College’s current Motor Vehicle Policy are required.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents - A minimum of 1 year of effective field hockey coaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level is required.
Standard Work Days and Hours - Variable depending on season. Ability to work weekends and evenings. Frequent overnight travel with student athletes may be required during the field hockey season.
All coaches are required to be on campus during the academic year (late August – early June) and are expected to keep hours that make them readily available to student-athletes. Recruitment responsibilities during the summer months may require additional travel.
Use of vacation must be scheduled and approved by the Head Coach and Director of Athletics in accordance with the assigned sport(s)’ season(s).
