Assistant Coach, Men’s & Women’s Track & Field - Throws
Position Purpose
The Assistant Coach for Men’s and Women’s Track & Field supports the Head Coach in all facets of managing a competitive NCAA Division I Track & Field program. This position contributes to the recruitment, development, and academic success of student-athletes while ensuring compliance with all university, conference, and NCAA regulations. The Assistant Coach plays a vital role in creating a positive team culture and advancing the mission and values of Lehigh University.
Key Accountabilities
1. Coaching and Athlete Development
• Assist in planning and conducting practices, skill development sessions, and meet preparation.
• Provide skill instruction specific to throwers and constructive feedback to student- athletes as it relates to improvement and development.
• This position will work directly with Lehigh’s strength and conditioning staff to provide oversight of the throwers in this area.
• Promote a team environment centered on personal and athletic growth, accountability, and high performance
• Monitor and assess student-athlete progress and contribute to individualized development plans.
2. Recruitment and Retention
• Support the Head Coach in all phases of recruiting, including identification, evaluation, and communication with prospective student-athletes.
• Build strong, supportive relationships with recruits, families, and high school/club coaches.
• Coordinate campus visits and assist with the onboarding process for new student- athletes.
• Assist in retaining student-athletes at a rate equal to or above the University rate.
• Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive team culture that supports retention and student
success.
3. Administrative and Operational Support
• Assist with program operations as designated by the head coach
• Ensure adherence to all NCAA, Patriot League, and university compliance requirements.
• Maintain accurate recruiting, training, and academic records.
• Support budget planning and responsible resource management.
4. Community Engagement and Program Representation
• Represent the track and field program in a professional manner both on and off campus.
• Participate in fundraising initiatives, promotional events, and alumni engagement
activities.
• Encourage and support student-athlete involvement in community service and leadership opportunities.
• Assist in the coordination and execution of youth camps, clinics, and other outreach efforts.
5. Program Outcomes and Impact
• Contribute to competitive success through student-athlete development and the execution of effective practice plans.
• Support academic success by mentoring student-athletes and collaborating with academic services.
• Assist in graduating Student-Athletes at a rate equal to or above the University rate.
• Foster the holistic development of student-athletes, emphasizing leadership, resilience, and personal accountability.
• Help elevate program visibility through recruitment, community engagement, and alumni relations.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and support strategic departmental and university initiatives.
6. Salary Part-Time $15,000-$20,000 DOE
