Looking for two part-time assistant coaches to join the staff at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon - DURING THE 2026/2027 SCHOOL YEAR

Pay $20-25/hour depending on experience
Roughly 16 Hours/week. Additional hours for Regatta weekends/training travel trips/spring break. If applicant has expertise in a specific area (like working with novices or coxswains), we can add additional work to help mentor a certain squad on the team. Everyone is encouraged to apply

Assistants will prioritize…

Safety
- All coaches will collaborate on days where conditions are less than favorable
- Rower and boat safety is first priority, keep your head on a swivel, we row on a ever-changing river

Efficiency
-Show respect to your students by launching and docking in a timely manner
-Self motivated- if something can be done better, bring it to the attention of the head coach

The Students
-We are here for the students to have an excellent crew experience
-Willingness to prioritize the students practice schedule while in season
-Never give up on a student- regardless of attitude or rowing ability, they have a chance to grow

Collaboration & Communication
-As a staff as a whole, we are one unit. Discuss issues openly behind closed doors, be cohesive in front of the students
-Communicate and be in support of the overall goals of the program set by the head coach
-Encourage the students to communicate with their captains, with the coaches, and with the head coach

Core responsibilities (in collaboration with the Head Coach)
-Daily practice plans- lineups, drills, workouts (within the structure of the program), etc.
-Any action item you are asking of the students will get approval by the head coach
-Regular communication with the Novice team or coxswain team

Required experience
- Ability to drive a launch and coach at the same time
- Coach at least one boat by themselves
- Trailer driving experience not required, but would be great

The Lewis & Clark Men's and Women's Rowing program is a inclusive program with both walk-on's and experienced rowers. This program is one of the most diverse sports teams on campus (LGBT+. International students, racial identities, abilities and disabilities, religious affiliations, etc). Any assistant coach joining the staff must be able to work with anyone and everyone while prioritizing the goals of the program.
