Description

The Colby College Department of Athletics is seeking an assistant volleyball coach. The position is a part-time one-year, renewable appointment. The assistant volleyball coach’s responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all duties involved in running a competitive Division III volleyball program. Essential Functions
On-site coaching in games and practices, including organization and implementation of daily practices

Prepare film breakdown and analysis, and present analysis to team members

Plan and prepare for games

Provide support and encouragement to student athletes, including academic counseling and advising

Recruit and retain talented athletes successfully

Research academic and athletic credentials

Build relationships with prospective student athletes and their families through email, phone and one-on-one meetings

Organize and implement recruit visits

Ensure safety and well-being of student athletes

Serve as an effective role model for college-age students

Comply with all guidelines, rules and regulations set forth by Colby College, the NESCAC and the NCAA

Assist with day-to-day operations of the volleyball program

Provide effective communication to head coach

Collaborate effectively with other Department of Athletics’ team members

Assist with the coordination of team travel

Demonstrate understanding of the importance of a diverse workforce to the College’s overall success

Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Position Qualifications
Ability to excel as a member of a diverse community

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience

Previous experience coaching and or/competing at the collegiate level is highly desirable

Committed to the values of a liberal arts education

Working knowledge of rules and regulations governing collegiate competition

Outstanding organizational, communication, writing, interpersonal, and analytical skills and the capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Ability to work independently, take initiative, and to exercise sound judgement and discretion

Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements

Ability to travel for team practices, competition, and scouting/recruiting in and out of state

Demonstrated commitment to supporting the development of student athletes from varied backgrounds

Daily work will involve extended use of a computer, including keyboard and mouse

Physical requirements differ by position. In general, most roles involve lifting up to 10 pounds regularly, with some positions requiring occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds.

Vision requirements for this position include the ability to see clearly at close and far distances and to adjust focus as needed.

The work environment is dynamic and engaging, often involving multiple tasks and projects that require shifting focus and strong organizational skills.

The noise level is generally moderate; however, there may be occasional moments of louder sounds depending on campus activity.
