She was named State Volleyball Coach of the Year four times, Conference Coach of the Year 18 times, chosen to coach in three SC All Star Games, and was SC’s nominee for National Coach of the Year three times. LCG’s basketball teams posted an overall record of 437-126, giving her a total of 1018 victories in the two sports. She had three undefeated SC State Basketball Championship teams and finished as State Runner-Up five times, giving her a remarkable 10 State Championships and 10 State Runner-Ups in the two sports. LCG’s basketball teams won 14 Conference titles and 13 Conference Tournament Championships. She was named State Coach of the Year four times, Conference Coach of the Year 10 times and twice named to coach in the SC Basketball All Star Games. She is the only coach in SC to have been named State Coach of the Year in both volleyball and basketball in the same year. LCG’s coaching legacy lives in her former players and their careers as teachers, coaches, and women leaders across many industries. She prepared young women to be fearless, competitive, and leaders. From playing Aretha Franklin’s R-E-S-P-E-C-T as practice music to reciting Maya Angelou’s Phenomenal Woman poem, she taught women their value in more ways than just on the court. LCG comes from a family of coaches, beginning with her father who was a State Championship winning coach at McBee High School. Her brother, Andrew Calder, was the Associate Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of North Carolina, and her sister Tamara Jacobus was a State Championship winning coach at Indian Land High School. Her daughter, Emily Roberts, coached at both the high school and college levels, and her husband, David Green, coached high school football for 49 years. We are honored to provide this scholarship in Coach Calder-Green’s name. (Emily Jo Roberts, Scholarship Donor, daughter of Laurie Calder-Green, Director, Wasserman Women’s Coaching & Executives + The Collective).
